Plain-Language Summary
Some product links on PowerUsage are affiliate links. When you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission from the retailer. You pay the same price you would have paid without the link.
Commissions help cover hosting and data costs. They do not influence which products appear, how they are scored, or what we recommend.
What an Affiliate Link Is
An affiliate link is a URL that contains a tracking identifier unique to PowerUsage. When you click it and complete a qualifying purchase, the retailer credits us with the referral and pays a percentage of the sale.
This is a standard arrangement under the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guides. This page exists so you know when and how it happens.
How We Use Them
Affiliate links appear on:
- Device catalog pages — alongside specs for individual products
- Comparison and recommendation surfaces where a specific product is named
They do not appear inside the calculator inputs, rate data, or any educational documentation.
Editorial Independence
Products are added to the catalog by our editors or submitted by users — never because a retailer paid us to feature them. We do not accept sponsored placements, paid reviews, or guaranteed-position deals.
Wattage, efficiency, and cost figures are drawn from manufacturer specs and independent data sources. Affiliate status has no effect on the numbers we publish.
If we remove or downgrade a product, it is because the data changed — not because of an affiliate relationship.
Retailers We Work With
PowerUsage participates, or may participate, in affiliate programs run by:
- Amazon Associates
- Home Depot
- Lowe's
- Direct manufacturer programs (selected solar, battery, and EV-equipment vendors)
This list may change over time. The disclosure shown on any page with affiliate links applies regardless of which retailer the link points to.
How Affiliate Links Are Marked
Every page that contains affiliate links shows a short disclosure near the link itself — typically the line:
Outbound affiliate links open in a new tab and includerel="sponsored noopener"as recommended by search-engine and FTC guidance.
Your Cost
Affiliate links cost you nothing. The retailer pays the commission out of their existing margin. The price you see at checkout is the same price you would see by typing the retailer's URL directly.
What Gets Tracked
When you click an affiliate link, we log:
- The device ID and outbound URL
- A timestamp
- Your user ID, only if you are signed in
We do not store your IP address. We do not share click data with advertisers. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Once you arrive at the retailer's site, the retailer's own tracking, cookies, and privacy policy apply. PowerUsage has no control over those.
